The original residence of Leopold II Grand Duke of Tuscany, is situated between the renowned cities of Siena and Lucca, in a triangle of high quality wine production, such as Sassicaia and Ornellaia. Today this magnificent Historical Castle offers you the chance to experience history with all the modern comforts of the 21st century. With its 14 rooms it can welcome up from 16 to 24 guests. Rented weekly as an exclusive, private villa irregardless if you rent 8 bedrooms or all 14 bedrooms.
The Castle is accessible by a single lane, lined with cypress and pine trees, at the end of which the impressive gates open onto the front garden with private parking. Passing through the entrance hall, one steps into the rose garden; an ideal place for breakfast, lunch and dinner. At the end of the garden, separated by a smaller gate, is a swimming pool, open from mid May to the end of September.
As this is a land notorious for the production of DOC and DOCG wines known all over the world, one of the activities that we recommend is a tour of the local producers, such as Sassicaia and Ornellaia. We advise you to book this in advance to make sure you don't miss out. Visits can be personalized according to your taste and expertise. Wine experts will guide and assist you throughout the itinerary.
On the ground floor is a large and beautiful entrance hall enriched with antique oil paintings and an 18th century Tuscan table. Other rooms on this floor include a small study with a writing desk for all your post card and letter writing to those at home. There's also a sitting room with fireplace and small bar, an intimate living room, two more living rooms with satellite TV, VCR and internet access where you can surf the web at your leisure. The wifi is strong throughout the castle and the gardens. You'll enjoy the daily Continental breakfast buffet that is served every morning in a large dining room with antique furniture, of course. The kitchen adjoins another small intimate dining room.
The thirteen double bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms, are arranged on different levels and individually decorated. Each is provided with mini-bar, air conditioning, satellite TV, telephone, and safe. One magnificent staircase takes you to the first floor where there is a large suite with a very large terrace. Through another set of doors is a second suite and two double bedrooms.The tower can be accessed from this wing of the castle which hosts a gracious and intimate bedroom. The mezzanine level consist of a junior suite and double bedroom and the staircase that continues to the attic where you will find another junior suite with a view of the gardens and surrounding countryside. The second staircase is to the right of the entrance hall, guarded by two antique suits of armor. It leads to the Grand Duke's bedroom painted in a magnificent cardinal red and furnished with fine damask cloth, 17th century headboard and a grand piano. The staircase leads up to two other suites that have garden views..
Outside, the rear garden of the Castle has a well kept rose garden and lawn for resting and relaxing during the afternoon. An outdoor bar and patio with tables are perfect for having your meals al fresco. The gated swimming pool overlooks a split level olive grove. There is also a changing room, bathroom with Jacuzzi, a small bar and gym. It is an outdoor living room with complete privacy.
