Lazio

This region that lies between the Apennine Mountains and the Tyrrhenian Sea is much older than Roman Times. In fact, it dates back as far as 60,000 years. Named after the Latin inhabitants, Latuim, this region offers all types of landscapes created from four different volcanoes that have contributed to the breathtaking lakes, rugged mountains, and rich farming valleys. It also harbors a wealth of archeological sights dating back to the 10th century B.C.

In the 7th century B.C. Etruscans and Sabines developed trade and agriculture in the North which later became the major food supplier for Rome. This is the region where the term, "All roads lead to Rome" originated. As Rome began its empire, roads sprang up from all parts of this region to reach this important city.
