There is spectacular scenery to be seen between the
Apuan Alps in an area called Garfagnana and the Serchio
Valley. The little spa town of Bagni di Lucca, where Puccini
spent a lot of his time and the villages of Barga and
Castelnuovo di Garfagnana are the most visited towns.
Versilia, the coastal plain at the foot of the Apuan Alps
is famous for its beaches which includes the famous resort
town of Viarggio. Seravezza, one of the quarry towns
frequented by Michelangelo is an interesting place to stop
if you don't have time to visit Massa Carrara.
