Charming, cozy, darling, magical, mystical... these are just a few of the adjectives that describe Fonte della Fate when you first approach her. This charming house sits on one of a small collections of hills dotted with ancient villages, small castles and historic places that separates Lucca from Pisa. Totally secluded in a fairy tale atmosphere, yet civilization is just 10 minutes to Lucca, 3 minutes to a supermarket and 30 minutes to the beaches of Viargeggio.

This charming farmhouse was built on the side of a small hill, back in the early 1700's and remains in the original owner's family to this day. In the 1980's the family did a complete renovation bringing this charming little house into the 20th century with electricity, heating and plumbing. Then in the 21st century they upgraded again, creating a storybook dwelling. As you drive up the hill on a paved hill, climbing a little over a mile from the main road, the forrest opens up to a two acre setting. The stone walls, terracotta roof, and lovely grounds is a storybook setting and will have you looking for Geppetto and Pinnochio, or Biancaneve , Snow White ( yes! she was Italian !) The setting is just magical; there is not another human or building in site. The forests are home to foxes, porcupines, badgers and you may even see a wild boar in the distance.

From the windows and gardens, your views go down to the pool area then sweeps up to the hills filled with many different species of evergreens, the dark wooded chestnut trees, the acacias and the small olive grove's silvery green leaves is sensory overload.

The recently restored interiors have been furnished with antique pieces from the Tuscan tradition; and the bedrooms are beautifully furnished in calm subtle colors.

The ground floor ceilings are the typical antique chestnut beans from the forest and the floor is covered with the typical antique terracotta bricks popular througjhout Italy. The original exterior stone walls are over 3 feet thick at the base, keeping the house cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

From the loggia, it's a short walk to the edge of the upper garden where another table with chairs overlooks the swimming pool below. A path leads down to the swiming pool area where there is another loggioa covered in grapevines and an original 18th century wood burning oven. Your caretaker will be happy to start the fire so that when you come home you can make pizza or fresh made bread for dinner. The outdoor kitchen is equipped with oven, stove top and small fridge, dishes and cutlery for having lunches and dinners poolside. From the pool area, there is a short path that leads into the woods and a soothing little cascading brook set among ferns and chestnut trees, creating a cool oasis on even the hottest days.

Even though you are surrounded by nature that seems a thousand miles from anywhere, you are just 15 minutes to Lucca and Piza, and major roads leading to Florence, Montecatini Terme, Vloterra, San GImignano and the entire Versilia coastline. A day trip to Livorno is a must , and for wine lovers, further down a few miles is Bolgheri, producing super Tuscan wines
