Lovely location on a small street that intersects with the famous Via Marguta. My Roman relatives dream of having an apartment here, and every visit to Rome includes a gelato and stroll down via Marguta with my cousins. What makes it so special? My Roman relatives tell me " It's like walking through a magic door, away from the hustle and bustle of the city and crowds of tourists into a small area of tranquility and peace ".
In the fourteen century it was home to the working man: bricklayers, stone masons, grooms and coachmen all carrying on their daily lives. It wasn't until an unknown artist took up shop here, and by the 16th century it became the homes and studios of foreign artists, including the infamous Caravaggio. It continued growing as an artist's community and the fountain you see today, . Fontano delle Arti was created by the architect Pietro Lombardi in 1927 to honor all of the artists that have passed through this street. Look for the many easels, palettes, masks, brushes and sculptor's compasses. The two central masks one sad, the other smiling reveal the many moods of a struggling artist. Note the fountain is topped by a bucket of brushes. In the 1950's it became famous for No 51, the exterior shots of Joe Bradley's ( Gregory Peck ) apartment in the movie Roman Holiday. While you are taking your one of many strolls along Via Marguta, look for the former home of Italy's most influential director and screenwriter, Federico Fellini.
Just a three minute walk from the Spanish Steps but worlds away from the hustle and bustle, located on a quiet characteristic street famous throughout the centuries.

Enter the building and take the staircase up to the first floor ( US second floor). From the entrance hall you reach the dining room that leads into the living room and on to the lovely eat in kitchen. All the windows have beautiful views to remind you that you are in Rome. One window frames the tip of the Spanish Steps and another frames a beautiful magnolia tree that when in full bloom in spring fills the window with a spectacular view of pink and white flowers. .
On each end of the apartments you will find the bedrooms. At one end a King bedroom that can be converted into two single beds ( twins ) with en suite bath with shower. The other end a Queen bedroom with a hall bath with tub and hand held shower.
The apartment has polished wood floors and is furnished with beautiful antiques and objects d'art, Venetian glass chandeliers and ceiling to floor draperies in a rich colors and fabrics. Because of the fine antiques, children under 12 years of age are not encouraged.
Because this apartment feels more like a home than a rental, it's central location and nearby public transportation, it is ideal for longer stays of a month or more.
Though this is in an area of tourist interest, the apartment palace is tucked away in a quiet corner and by passes the crowds around the Spanish Steps. In fact, you will find that this neighborhood is known of upscale residents.
