This lovely three story apartment is located on a very small street between via Monserrato and the famous via Giulia, so named Barchetta because this street led to the ferry points in ancient times. Nice location with an easy walk to the Campo dei Fiori, one of Rome's most attractive old squares with a characteristic food market that attracts locals and tourists alike. The two most important Renaissance palaces in Rome, the Palazzo dell Cancelleria and the Palazzo Farnese are just a short walk from the apartment. Via Giulia is another pretty street you may recognize from pictures showing a picturesque arch covered in vines crossing the road at one point. This was the famous planned but never carried out viaduct that Michelangelo designed to connect the Palazzo Farnese with the Villa Franesina. The lovely gardens of the Palazzo Farnese filled with magnolias, orange trees, cypresses and pines can be seen through this gate. The apartment's street crosses onto Via Di Monserrato where you can see the church of St. Thomas of Canterbury and a nearby piazza where the church of San Girolamo dell Carita stands. Further on is the church of Santa Caterina da Siena and the Palazzo Varese. Across the river is the Bohemian and art district of Trastevere where you will find inexpensive but very good tratorrias and pizzerias and on the other side of Campo dei Fiori is the Piazza Navona, Pantheon and the famous Spanish Steps. As you can see, a very good location to call home if only for a while!
