On the main gate to the entrance of this palace is a wrought iron rendering of the 'Cavallo Sfrenato' (galloping horse), the symbol of the Accademia dei Risoluti. The Palazzo is located in the historic center of Florence, near the church of Sant Ambrogio and Santa Maria Maddalena dei Pazzi. It is only 150 meters northeast of Piazza Santa Croce and across from the beautiful Loggia Del Pesce, designed in 1568 by Vasari created solely as an open air fish market. The famous Mercantio, an antique and flea market, is not far from the Palazzo. Nearby you can read the partial inscription on an old house that records the home of Lorenzo Ghiberti, a famous Fiorentine family. Close by is the street Borgo Allegri, named after the 13th century artist Cimabue, who joyously (Allegri) proceeded down the street from his nearby studio after finishing his painting of the Madonna. This street now has a small public garden opened to the public and kept in order by the pensioners who live in this district. The area is filled with charm and antiquity and dates back to the 1200's to the early 1800's with architecture from all periods. It is the ideal position for exploring all of the historic districts of Florence while soaking in the day to day ambiance of a local neighborhood.
