This villa is a magnificent tribute to the history of Lucca. Built In the early 1800's as a summer residence for the Pfanner family of Lucca who used the estate for the cultivation of rare flowers. It was passed on to the Matteucci family, who in the summer of 1854 invented the first stroke engine. Throughout the years, Villa Camelia has always been a much loved home. The large swimming pool is set just beyond the beautiful camellia gardens with unique fountains, large lawns surrounded with lavender and terra cotta pots of lemon trees. From the Franotio where the olives from the estate where pressed since 1850, the hills opens up to a magnificent view of the city of Lucca, Nottolini's aqueduct and the tree lined avenue that leads to a professional equestrian center.
Walk, mountain bike or ride through the peaceful estate, or venture out to discover the may delights of Tuscany. The medieval walled town of Lucca is a 10 minute drive away, the leaning tower of Pisa just 30 minutes, or a 40 minute drive will take you to the little port of Lerici overlooked by a cliff top castle from where boats leave every hour to Portovenere and the Cinque Terre. The birth of the Renaissance, Florence, is just an hour away and can be reached by car or train. Or drive to San Gimignano and on to Monteriggioni and on to Siena, stopping through the Chianti countryside to taste some excellent local wines. Go north in the steps of Michelangelo to the marble quarries of Carrara and the sculpture town of Pietrasanta. If you are looking for a beach, Forte dei Marmie is an enjoyable town to soak up the sun or shopping.
