In the heart of the Chianti region, between Florence and Siena stands the beautiful Villa Giulia. A wonderful retreat with breathtaking views of a typical Chianti landscape ~ carefully tended vineyards, olive groves and orchards, and stretches of wild wooded areas that dot the gently rolling hillsides, like soothing waves of the ocean. Located near the town of Castelfiorentino, once the main route from Rome to France, it now is near one of the prettiest roads in Tuscany, the Via Chiantigiana which leisurely winds its way from one picture-postcard Tuscan hill town to another. Greve in Chianti, Panzano, Castellina in Chianti, and many other towns line this road all the way to Siena.
This beautiful home started out as a castle in the 13th century and some of the stones are still visible in the foundation of the walls that surround the house along with the brick tower that houses an additional bedroom and living room.
Even with mentions of the original castle dating back as early as 1075, the estate occupied by Villa Giulia had already been passed down through generations for over 200 years before that point. Though only the square tower of the original castle remains today (with a fraction of its fresco of the Virgin Mary still intact), the feel of timeless elegance still fills the air. The 16th-century villa has been completely refurbished for luxury living by owners dedicated to preserving the authenticity of the architecture and layout, while notably enhancing the atmosphere and the quality of the living spaces. The villa is set in the Colli Fiorentini, part of the ancient lands that have been considered part of Florence for millennia. This is the Tuscany of picture books and postcards, where the surroundings offer delightful vistas of rolling hills, patchwork farms and abundant nature.
The complex of Villa Guilia centers on a courtyard, overlooked by the 11th-century Torre, the 13th-century consecrated chapel, and the central area of the 16th-century villa. These buildings form a cohesive complex at once luxuriously spacious and attractively intimate. The layout of the property allows for gatherings both large and small -- dining alfresco, resting in the shade, or taking a refreshing lap of the swimming pool on the lower terrace. The central lawn is dominated by an old magnolia tree and an upper terrace offering sweeping views of the Chianti vineyards. The enclosed lawn, adjacent to the lower pool terrace, lends itself perfectly to lawn games.
Access to Florence is easy; by train or on good roads in no more than 40 minutes. There are stunning country lanes to explore, as well as charming and atmospheric villages. San Casciano in Val di Pesa and San Gimignano are well-known and reachable in 15 - 25 minutes. Montaione and Palaia are less known but offer an authentic experience of their own, and are reachable within 45 minutes. The famous villages of Chianti -including Greve, Radda, and Castellina - are numerous and enable you to combine the Via Chiantigiana with an exploration of excellent vineyards. Nearby Montespertoli is an undiscovered gem, as is Castelfiorentino. These are real Tuscan strongholds, where you can still taste authentic ways of life unchanged for generations.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Ground Floor:
Enter into the large, cozy living room with fireplace. On the left, a beautiful marble staircase leads to the first floor. From the living room, a hallway leads to a spacious and fully equipped kitchen with terracotta floors and chestnut - beamed ceilings. Fuirther down the hallway is a guest bathroom and a delightful dinning room with French doors that open up to a pretty courtyard. Beyond the dining room is the large living room with fireplace with a romantic reading alcove that also doubles as the TV area. Off of the living room is a double bedroom with an en suite bathroom with a Jacuzzi whirlpool bathtub

First Floor:
At the top of the marble staircase, a long hallway separates the bedrooms. On the right there is a double bedroom with en suite bathroom with shower and Jacuzzi bath. To the left there are two twin bedrooms - both with their own en suite bathrooms, one with shower and tub and the other with shower. At the far end of the hallway is a double bedroom with a private balcony that overlooks the front yard. A hallway bathroom with both shower and Jacuzzi bath is right next door. The laundry room with wardrobe is at the end of the hallway along with a second staircase leading down to the ground floor.

The Tower:
The medieval tower alongside the villa (part of the original castle) has its own private entrace. Open the door and step into the living room, a staircase takes you up to a double bedroom with its own bathroom with shower. Nice views!
