Villa Bernadette started as a Nobleman's hunting lodge, grew into a small borgo and was most recently restored into a peaceful retreat nestled among a lovely setting of weeping willows, lily ponds and inner courtyards lit by soft sunlight, formal gardens with marble statues and the soft lulling sound of fountains. This is a luxurious retreat with a warm and comfortable feel that is in no way ostentatious. It is magnificently luxurious in a tranquil setting with Mother Nature. The ground floor consists of a grand foyer with staircase, four bathrooms, a fully equipped chef's kitchen, formal dining room, drawing room, office with telephone, fax and internet access and computer facilities, a domed music room and library, a card and billiard room, wine cellar, sunroom with satellite TV, salon, gym with its own music system, four bathrooms, laundry room and the staff's accomodations. The upper floor holds the 12 tastefully decorated bedrooms with en suite bathrooms that all have individually controlled thermostats, telephones and hairdryers. The house is divided into three areas:
The original stone chapel of the estate now accomodates three warm, sunny and luxurious en suite bedrooms overlookng the sweimming pool to one side and a courtyard filled with terracotta pots and lemon trees on the other. The rooms are above the sunroom and TV room and consist of a warm and spacious queen bedroom with two large armchairs and writing desk and a large en suite bathroom with jacuzzi bath and shower, a citrus lime double bedroom with doors opening out to a view across the Italian gardens with an en suite bathroom and a clementine yellow and raspberry king/twin bedroom with double French doors that lead out to a small terrace, and an ensuite bathroom.
The oldest part of the property, once a wild boar hunting lodge, with walls dating back to the year 1,000, houses the five central luxurious bedrooms in a horseshoe arrangement overlooking a small piazza, with all the original beamed ceilings and terracotta floors. These guest rooms are above the music, card and billiard rooms and the wine room and consist of a wedgewood blue queen bedroom with lots of windows and a beautifully frescoed en suite bathroom with jacuzzi bath. A gold and red King/twin bedroom with en suite bath and French doors that open out overlooks a beautiful courtyard brimming with lemon trees and colorful flowers in terracotta pots. Other bedrooms include an olive green queen bedroom with frescoed en suite bath, a vibrant green and red queen bedroom with frescoed en suite bathroom. and a peach and gold queen bedroom with sofa, writing desk and en suite bath with jacuzzi tub. This bedroom has magnificent views of the 17th century fountains and the town of Lucca.
The third area of the first floor is directly above the grand dining room and formal living room and consists of four delightful and elegant guest rooms integrated around the original 17th century fountains and overlook the splendid Italian park. The first is a large emerald green king/twin bedroom with comfortable armchairs, a writing desk and a magnificent en suite bathroom with jacuzzi bath and gold features. There is a strawberry red and gold queen bedroom with frescoed en suite bathroom, a deep blue king/queen bedroom with frescos and en suite bath and a midnight blue and gold queen bedroom wtih sofa, writing desk and a en suite bath with jacuzzi. The manager's apartment is also on this floor in one of the wings.
Continue on to the exquisite grounds and you will find a saltwater swimming pool, barbecue area, large pond, fountains, courtyards, outdoor tables and chairs. The property is lit at night with floodlights to create a surreal atmosphere of beauty, tranquility and peace.
